Christmas Eve service
Zion is invited to a Christmas Eve service at Pacific Covenant Mennonite Church on December 24, at 7 p.m. The church meets at the Seventh Day Adventist Church at 2180 S. Territorial Rd., Canby.
Christmas Soup Lunch
Plan to come to our Christmas Soup Lunch on Wednesday, Dec. 20, at noon. We are planning a lunch for all and to honor our senior members. (This will be in place of our regular Soup’s On.) There will be no charge for this meal but donations are welcome. You may bring friends. Please sign up by Dec. 18, call or email zionmc@canby.com with the number of people coming. Hope to see you there. We will have special door prizes and Christmas music.
Sing your own Messiah
December 17; 6:30 pm, Zion Mennonite Church. Sunday, The concert will be directed by Tom Gingerich. Bring your own score if you have one. Listeners are welcome. Donations will be accepted for honorariums. There will be a time of fellowship after the concert. Please bring finger foods ready to be placed on the table to share with our guests after the concert.
Western Mennonite School Christmas Concerts
Western Mennonite School invites you to attend the Middle School Christmas Concert on Tuesday, December 12th and the High School Christmas Concert on Thursday, December 14th. Both concerts will be held in the chapel at 7:00 p.m.

Drift Creek Camp Annual Members Meeting
This year's annual members meeting at Drift Creek Camp has been extended to begin with a salmon feed Friday noon, November 3 and will feature guest speaker Perry Yoder on Creation and the Environment and his brother Jon Yoder leading workshops on Drift Creek ecology. See the complete program.

During the Christian Education hour (9:30 - 10:30), Leo will lead the activity A Joyful Noise which offers a Christian-based interactive form of teaching peacemaking principles through rhythm, drumming, and story.

Peace and Justice Seminar, with Perry Yoder

James Juhnke to speak at Zion, Sunday September 24
OMHGS is bringing retired history professor and author James Juhnke of Bethel College, KS, to Oregon the week of September 17-24. He is known as a dynamic speaker and is very well liked by his students. He is the author of several Mennonite and American history books including The Missing Peace: the Search for Nonviolent Alternatives in United States History. We have the privilege of having him speak at Zion on Sunday, Sept. 24, at 6 p.m. Please consider coming to listen to him as he shares on “The war on terror and America’s history of ‘the missing peace.’” Click this link for an audio recording.

Pacific Northwest Mennonite Conference to meet in Kalispell, Montana, June 23 - 25, 2006
The 2006 conference will be held in Kalispell, Montana, at Northridge Luthern Church. Mountain View Mennonite Church will be the sponsor. Mark your calendars now for this "mountaintop" experience. Plan now to be in beautiful Kalispell, Montana, June 23-25 for “PNMC Mt. View – 2006”. This gathering of young and old from our Pacific Northwest Mennonite Churches will offer something for everyone. The theme is “Calling and Nurturing for Lives of Service.” Janet Plenert, Exec. Dir. of International Ministries for MC Canada Witness, will be the keynote speaker. In addition to the delegate sessions there will be seminars, worship sessions, children’s activities and youth happenings.
Training for the new Sunday school curriculum, Gather ‘Round, which starts September, 2006, will be available for all interested and will take place at two different times. Western Mennonite will host the first training on Saturday, May 13th, from 9:30 – 12:30. For those not able to attend the first training, they can attend the training at Portland Mennonite on Saturday, June 3rd from 9:00 – 12:00. All Christian Education personnel, teachers, pastors, and parents are encouraged to attend. Gather ‘Round is Bible story-centered, with an emphasis on strengthening the connection between church and home, discipleship, and peace and justice issues.
Joe Dugan, pastor at Second Timothy Baptist Church in Philadelphia, will be speaking at our worship service on April 23. Currently he is campus pastor and assistant principal of Philadelphia Mennonite School. He is a dynamic public speaker and speaks at conferences and conventions. He will be speaking at Western Mennonite School next week.
Our Good Friday Service will be held Friday evening at 6:30 in the Fellowship Hall. Please bring fruit and sandwiches to share. Please bring only enough for your family so we don’t have leftovers. Young Adult Retreat at Drift Creek Camp: ATTENTION, YOUNG ADULTS, 18 (high school grads)-31; The time is coming near for our Young Adult Retreat at Drift Creek Camp; “ A Weekend Away for rest and renewal" is being planned for YOU, March 17-19, at Drift Creek Camp. The retreat will be full of fun and fellowship, and Sarah Gammell Matthews from Portland Mennonite Church will be sharing the meditations for the weekend. Cost : $60 per person (covers two nights lodging, meals for Saturday and Sunday brunch, plus lots of fun and fellowship). There will be an Ash Wednesday service here at Zion on March 1, planned by Zion and Pacific Covenant. We are asking you to be a part of a choir to perform two pieces at the Ash Wednesday service--one out of the hymnal and one a choral arrangement. There will be two practices: 1) Feb. 19 at Pacific Covenant at 2 p.m., and 2) Feb. 26, at Zion at 3 p.m.

Adult Retreat
Need some time away? Come to the Zion Adult Retreat at Drift Creek Camp (January 27-29, 2006). Angie Nissly will be sharing on the topic, “Can You Drink The Cup?” A few highlights include quilting, life-size Dutch Blitz, a benefit auction, and lots of relaxation. Matt Chandler (CPT)

Matt Chandler recently returned from Baghdad, Iraq, after being involved with efforts to support the families of detainees and helping to build the Iraqi peace movement. His presentation will include stories and insights rooted in his experiences as a CPT worker in Palestine and Iraq. He is a young man who is highly committed to being a peacemaker and who tells his story well.

On January 8 we will gather for a fellowship meal following the worship time. After the meal all are invited to join a time of discussion about Zion’s mission. The discussion time will last about one hour. Everyone is encouraged to attend.

New Years Youth Retreat
Drift Creek Camp will host its second annual New Years Youth Retreat for grades 9-12 on the weekend of December 30, 2005 – January 2, 2006. The weekend will be loaded with fun activities and great music featuring the worship band Ministerios. Young adults will be sharing about their mission experiences based on the theme “Being the hands and feet of Jesus”. Cost is $45 per person. Talk to Jana!
